The Driver Era at Bottom Lounge in Chicago

On April 12th, The Driver Era stopped in Chicago at the Bottom Lounge with PUBLIC. The tour started in mid March in between the airing of season two of the Netflix show The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and shooting of the show’s season three, in which Ross Lynch stars in.

Kicking off the night was the indie pop/rock band, PUBLIC, who are based out of Cincinnati. The group gave an impressive performance, playing songs like their most recent single, "Honest," which dropped in February, "On My Mind," and even covering Britney Spears’ "Toxic." PUBLIC warmed up the crowd for The Driver Era, even lead vocalist, John Vaughn, jumped into the barricade in front of the crowd. From first impressions, if you’re a fan of Arctic Monkeys, COIN, or Dreamers you should definitely check out PUBLIC.

When The Driver Era came on stage, there was no idea as to what to expect from them. As someone who has only heard R5, it was a pleasant surprise to listen to their new sound. The band is also about preaching love and ‘capturing a certain classical feeling while still looking forward to tomorrow.’ The Driver Era paid tribute to Prince by covering "Let’s Go Crazy" as Ross Lynch described it to be the song he uses to "get into Harvey," his character from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. If you're holding back on listening to The Driver Era because Ross Lynch used to be a part of Disney, or because you've heard R5, I encourage you to put your opinions to the side and give The Driver Era a try.
